Backup and Restore NTFS Permissions

In this article, you will find instructions on how to easily back up and restore your files, folders and network shares with the complete set of their custom NTFS permissions using Managed Backup solution.

Backup NTFS Permissions

  1. Run the Backup Agent, then click the Files icon in the main toolbar.

  1. On Advanced Options step, select Backup NTFS permissions check box.
  2. Click Next.

  1. Select the folders and files you want to back up with the set of their custom NTFS permissions.
  2. Once the backup is done, backed-up objects appear on the Backup Storage tab.

Note: In the Backup Storage section, you can find only the actual backed-up files and folders. It does not display NTFS permissions of those objects. You can find these NTFS permissions displayed in the History tab.

Restore NTFS Permissions

  1. Run the Backup Agent, then click Restore in the main toolbar.

  1. On Advanced Options step, select Backup NTFS permissions check box.
  2. Click Next, then follow the Restore Wizard step to complete the restore plan editing.

Note: The NTFS permissions are kept within the file version. If you modify NTFS permissions for the file but do not modify the file itself then the next backup iteration will back up only the updated permissions for that file. So, during the restore process, that file will be restored with the latest set of its NTFS permissions.
