Internal and External Administrators

When creating an administrator, you can choose whether the administrator is internal or external. This setting determines how the administrator sees the Management Console and which service-related elements are displayed when the administrator does not have access to a particular feature.

Internal Administrator

Choose Internal for administrators who work for your organization or service provider and may need to manage different aspects of the Management Console.

Internal administrators may see some service-related elements even if they do not have permission to use the corresponding feature. For example, certain options may remain visible so that the administrator can see that the functionality exists, while access to it is restricted by permissions.

Use the Internal type for:

• Service provider employees.
• Administrators who manage the service provider's environment.
• Administrators who may need visibility into multiple features or provider-level settings.

External Administrator

Choose External for administrators who belong to a customer organization or other organization outside your service provider.

External administrators see only the functionality that are relevant to them based on the permissions assigned to their account. Features for which they do not have permission are hidden from the Management Console.

This is especially useful when you provide a rebranded service or offer only specific features to a customer. For example, if you provide Backup as your main service and the customer does not use RMM or Connect, an external administrator will not see unrelated RMM or Connect elements.

Use the External type for:

• Customer administrators.
• Administrators from organizations that use your services.
• Administrators who should only see the features available to their organization.
