Requirements and Limitations
Requirements
- Full backups must be scheduled in such a way that at least one full backup is executed within the shortest keeping period
- The GFS policy is applied to successful restore points only
This means the following: if you enable the weekly keeping period, a full backup must be executed at least once a week. If you enable a monthly and/or yearly keeping period, a full backup must be executed at least once a month.
Limitations
The GFS policy has some limitations. View the limitation list below:
- The GFS retention policy is introduced in version 7.2 of Backup Agent for Windows. Update the Backup Agent instances to the latest version
- The GFS retention policy is not supported in the legacy backup format. This means that the GFS policy is not available in MS SQL Server and MS Exchange backups, and all backup plans in the legacy backup format
